Once upon a time you had to be physically present in order the go to college and earn a degree. This made it difficult for persons who were past the traditional college age and had jobs and families to be able to earn advanced degrees. The proliferation of online universities and distance learning programs has changed all of that. There are now many options available to those who would like to continue their schooling, whether it is to finally obtain a high school diploma, gain a certification, or even earn a distance learning masters degree. These schools and courses are now fully accredited and as acceptable in many circles as traditional degrees. In the not to distant past the idea of earning any sort of college degree anywhere but on a college campus was looked down upon. Distance learning programs have been around for quite some time but until recently they just didn’t carry the same weight as a traditionally earned degree. As technology has advanced distance learning doctoral programs have grown in both popularity and acceptance as a viable way to continue ones education.
Back before Al Gore “invented the internet” these type of classes were called correspondence courses that were mainly limited to secretarial courses, medical support roles, and technical subjects. Not anymore, today anyone with a computer and internet connection can take accredited classes from recognized universities and earn that PhD they might not have otherwise attempted to get. Explosion of Online Programs for Degree Acquisition

It’s more possible these days to juggle full-time work with college studies, thanks to online programs that are said to be increasingly gaining acceptance among employers. And employees who work for companies that offer tuition assistance might consider applying the benefit toward online college pursuits. Online degree programs allow students to pretty much set their own schedules, participating in studies between family and work responsibilities and from wherever they have a computer with an Internet connection. Teachers Use Online College for Further Career Growth

Current and prospective teachers who choose to further their education by enrolling in campus-based or online colleges could obtain the skills they will need to improve the performance of their students and receive pay raises. Online college courses toward an accredited degree can be completed after a teacher’s regular workday, so as not to compromise the schedule of the teacher.
In an effort to improve the American education system, President Obama has announced several initiatives that are intended to increase the quality of learning at public schools. Education is extremely important for future generations, and the government is taking the time and resources to develop programs that will benefit students in the long term.
